EVENT BRANDING
I was brought on as a freelancer to work on the branding of a medical sales conference that was to take place at the end of 2020. The creative brief for this project was already established: "Ignite," celebrating the spirit of the upcoming summer Olympics. The goal was to evoke the competitiveness and uplifting environment of the games. Having played sports and worked in-house at college athletic departments and sports teams in the past, this fell right into my wheelhouse.
Bike & Build is a non-profit that serves two amazing functions. It organizes cross-country bicycle trips for college-aged students, and gives back to those communities by teaming up with Habitat for Humanity along their routes. The brand needed to communicate to both of Bike & Build’s core audiences: college-aged adventure seekers, and the individual donors and foundations that see value in their cause.
I worked with the creative director to come up with three logos and visual concepts, but in the end this was the chosen direction. The logo "i" was a subtle nod to the Olympic torch, while the geometric shapes were reminiscent of the forms and symbols found on sports fields (like nets, running tracks, and targets) - all of which were used to carry through the idea of movement and momentum. Bright, high intensity colors contrasted with the athletic figures and brought it all together.
In this way the execution needed to be both
fun and functional. The bold colors convey the vibrancy of its members on paper, and keeps them safe and visible when used on gear and equipment for the road.

Since the conference attendees were coming together from different regions across the US, the system needed to be flexible enough to design unique ephemera for each "team." We built out assets like team flags with slogans and trading pins to make attendees feel united and to inspire conversation and interaction. Custom corn-hole boards and photo walls created engaging activations in the space.
