PACKAGING

Kikkerland Design is best known for its whimsical line of utilitarian objects and its long-time role as a platform for students, industrial designers, and even one-off designer’s ideas to shine. As part of the in-house team, it was our job
to see packaging through from dieline to final production. This process regularly included illustration, product 
styling, photography or art direction, copy-writing, as well as managing proofs and communications with factories.

Given the ever-expanding and diverse product lines, updating the brand standards to include a strategy for the packaging was an important undertaking. While the overall look and feel had been developed and evolved over time, I audited major categories, and worked with the other departments
[packaging and design, merchandising, and sales teams] to consolidate the most impactful insights and build towards
a more functional, holistic system. 

Given the ever-expanding and diverse product lines, updating the brand standards to include

VOICE & TONE 

In addition to managing dielines, photography,
and design, the packaging team also wrote a lot
of the copy for each product. Most products required simple instructional or descriptive text, however where space allowed, there were also
lots of opportunities for more creative prose.


Kikkerland's product line is quirky, fun, and often new and unique to the marketplace.
Therefore the voice of the copy needed to evoke that sense of play, while dutifully relating its functionality. This passage is a sample of the copy I wrote for the Woodlands Morph Mug  (pictured above).
